What is LPN?
Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN or LPN) is a class of network protocols through which battery-powered sensors are connected to a gateway (network server). These protocols have been specifically designed for use in IoT systems. The goal of the protocols is to bridge large ranges while keeping energy consumption as low as possible. By using LPN technologies in IoT systems, efficiency can be increased and operating costs reduced.
Which LPN standards are there?
There are currently several standards in the LPN market: LoRaWAN is based on the LoRa modulation of the LoRa Alliance. LTE-M is based on LTE Advanced or NarrowBand-IoT (NB-IoT) from 3GPP. Depending on the IoT project, it must be evaluated which of these LPN standards is best suited for the application.
